League recap: Fabens stuns Mountain View in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mountain View, who took down 749th ranked Mountain View, 27-7. Alex Ortega ran for 172 yards in the win.

Fabens moved up to 767 from 874 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region I District 3. The Wildcats were able to make move up by topping the Lobos 27-7.

Mountain View's dynamic duo of Armando Anchondo and Martin Cazares proved tough for Fabens to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Anchondo threw for 103 yards and Cazares had 56 yards receiving. Adrian Vargas helped Mountain View's passing attack out by catching four balls for 39 yards.

Gary Rundell's team's Anchondo and Vargas have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Anchondo has thrown for 759 yards this season, while Vargas, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 22 catches for 439 yards. Daniel Vasquez from Clint leads the league in rushing with 665 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Clint takes on second place Mountain View. Last week, the Lions topped Fort Stockton, while the Lobos lost to Don Hennigan's team.

The Lions extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region I District 3 this week by beating Derrick Taylor's team, 28-18. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
