Basketball Recap: Slidell Picks Up Eighth Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Slidell, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 68-57 victory over the A.J. Ellender Patriots on Friday. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Patriots are ranked 257th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Slidell to victory were James Chaney and Jerry Birdlow. Chaney went 7 for 10 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds, while Birdlow almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Chaney's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolby Rachel, who posted ten points.

Slidell's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for A.J. Ellender, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-19.

Slidell has already played their next game (against Fontainebleau), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. A.J. Ellender will face off against Central Lafourche at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
