Volleyball Recap: Verdugo Hills Comes Up Short

Verdugo Hills came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Grant Lancers, falling 3-0. If the Dons were looking for revenge after losing 3-1 to the Lancers when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

The final score came out to 25-6, 25-19, 25-10.

Marley Hovestreydt paced Verdugo Hills' offense, picking up seven kills. Hovestreydt were helped by Riley Reinsch and Melanie Shahjahanian, who contributed five assists each. Shahjahanian also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Yeva Petrosyan, racking up two apiece.

Verdugo Hills' defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Grant, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Verdugo Hills is set to square off against their familiar foe Chavez at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Grant will take on rival Arleta at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
