Softball Recap: Gar-Field Comes Up Short

Gar-Field had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it four. They lost 23-4 to the Hylton Bulldogs. Red Wolves fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Bulldogs since on Friday.

Gar-Field saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ariana Biddle, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Biddle has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Alyssa Biddle was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

As for Hylton, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The result was nothing new for Hylton, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Hylton's side, Alanis Layne made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Layne was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two triples. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Luana Plummer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Alexandra Newton, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Gar-Field will take on rival Woodbridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hylton is set to challenge their familiar foe Freedom at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
