West Mesa is 10-0 against Rio Grande since January of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The West Mesa Mustangs will square off against the Rio Grande Ravens at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Mesa has three straight victories, Rio Grande has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Tuesday, West Mesa had just enough and edged Los Lunas out 48-46. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Tigers are ranked 68th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Rio Grande lost 62-42 to Melrose on Saturday.

Rio Grande's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for West Mesa, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5.

West Mesa strolled past Rio Grande when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a score of 73-58. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Mesa since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
