Recap: Easley Green Wave vs. Midland Valley Mustangs
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Easley Green Wave, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 28-21 to Midland Valley on Friday. While losing is never fun, Easley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Midland Valley is ranked 27th).
Several Green Wave players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Will Patton, who rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 100 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Logan Sullivan, who rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Traevon Dunbar was his usual excellent self, rushing for 219 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Antrone Butler, who gained 88 total yards and a touchdown.
Easley's defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their record down to 4-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 11-0 Daniel and 10-1 Westside (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 77.3% over those games). As for Midland Valley, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Easley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Midland Valley will be playing at home against South Pointe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in South Pointe's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three games.
