Basketball Recap: St. John Paul II Catholic Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Elijah Lopez and Patrick Stary

St. John Paul II Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Mohave Accelerated Patriots, falling 68-44. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 73-38 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Patrick Stary and Elijah Lopez certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Stary posted 16 points, while Lopez had 14 points. That's the most points Lopez has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Standage, who earned eight points.

It was another big night for Owen Honegger, who almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine boards for Mohave Accelerated. The matchup was Honegger's fourth in a row with at least 18 points. Braden Fontenot was another key player, putting up six points along with six assists and five rebounds.

St. John Paul II Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Mohave Accelerated, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season.

As of now, neither St. John Paul II Catholic nor Mohave Accelerated have any future games scheduled.
