Basketball Recap: Pender Drops Highest Score of Season Against West Columbus

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pender). They were the clear victor by a 64-41 margin over the West Columbus Vikings on Friday. The Patriots pushed the score to 50-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Vikings had little chance of recovering from.

Pender's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryan Howell, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. Howell has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Hansley, who posted 18 points and three steals.

Pender's victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-7. As for West Columbus, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pender will venture away from home to take on Heide Trask at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Heide Trask's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. As for West Columbus, they will square off against East Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
