Softball Recap: Dunellen Victorious

While Dunellen didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the J.P. Stevens Hawks 12-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Destroyers have posted since May 8, 2025.

Kyla Fucito and Savanna McCann did most of the damage at the plate: Fucito went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while McCann went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most stolen bases Fucito has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Rose Ciccolella, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Dunellen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .513 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Dunellen's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for J.P. Stevens, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-4.

Looking ahead, Dunellen will head out on the road to face off against Calvary Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. J.P. Stevens has already played their next game (against Perth Amboy Vo-Tech), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
