Baseball Recap: Cornerstone Charter Beats Carver for Their Third Straight Victory

Cornerstone Charter had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They never let the Carver Yellowjackets get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won five matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Jackson Shaffrey made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Shaffrey was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Cornerstone Charter: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Cornerstone Charter got a big performance out of Finley Harker, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs Harker has posted since back in February. Lawson Saul was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.

Cornerstone Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Cornerstone Charter's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Carver, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Coming up, Cornerstone Charter will take on Bishop McGuinness at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Carver, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Millennium on the 17th.
