Basketball Recap: Kade Vavruska's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Spearfish over Yankton

Spearfish fought the good fight in their overtime game against Yankton on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yankton Bucks/Gazelles. The Spartans have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Spearfish lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kade Vavruska, who posted 11 points and six rebounds. What's more, he posted two blocks, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kamren Davis, who scored 11 points.

Spearfish's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Yankton, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-15.

Spearfish didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 69-47 victory against Brookings on the 1st. As for Yankton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 71-34 win against Douglas on the 1st.
