Basketball Recap: Johnson Eagles vs. Marengo Panthers
Johnson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 39-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marengo Panthers. The Eagles lost against the Panthers in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 64-27 score last time.
Leading Marengo to victory were Jordan Moore and Omar Autery. Moore went 6 for 12 en route to 16 points plus five rebounds and five steals, while Autery dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Autery continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiing Fisher, who posted four points along with three steals.
Johnson's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Marengo, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Johnson will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Choctaw County at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Marengo, they will head out to face off against Clarke County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
