Baseball Recap: Gadsden Takes a Loss

Gadsden extended their losing streak to 13 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-18-1 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Alamogordo Tigers. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Alamogordo, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-15. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games.

For Alamogordo's part, Aric Vazquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up six Ks. Vazquez also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Tigers are undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 6-15 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Brandon Williams was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Jaden Ruiz was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

While Gadsden had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
