Softball Recap: South Lakes Starts off Right with Win over Freedom

South Lakes had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 10-7 win over the Freedom Eagles.

Meagan Maguire made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Sydney Zeigler was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. Fiona Shaw was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-3.

South Lakes hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Freedom struck out 11 times.

Freedom's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, South Lakes will host Lightridge at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Freedom, they will face off against Loudoun County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
