Softball Recap: Hurricane Wins High-Profile Contest Against Spring Valley

Hurricane faced Spring Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Hurricane beat Spring Valley by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Redskins also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Kate Justice spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Peyton Hudnall was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. She also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season. Kylie Bailey was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Hudnall wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Hurricane kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Hurricane's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Valley, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-3 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hurricane will face off against Belfry at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Spring Valley, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Logan at 6:00 p.m.
