Baseball Game Preview: Normandy Invaders vs. Rocky River Pirates

The Normandy Invaders will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Rocky River Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Normandy headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for five straight, but Lutheran West let them put that streak behind them. The Invaders were the clear victors by an 18-5 margin over the Longhorns on Friday. The Invaders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Dominic Williams looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Andrew Sikon was a standout: he scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cullen Rooney, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Normandy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Rocky River ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Lakewood. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Rangers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Normandy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Rocky River, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-1-1.
