Basketball Preview: Elkhart Elks vs. Teague Lions
Elkhart is 2-8 against the Lions since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Elkhart Elks will head out on the road to challenge the Teague Lions at 7:00 p.m. Elkhart is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 15-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, Elkhart had to suffer through a rough 79-44 loss at the hands of the Panthers. While losing is never fun, Elkhart can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1327th, while the Panthers are ranked 323rd).
Meanwhile, Teague's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 95-42 loss at the hands of Mexia.
Despite the loss, Teague had strong showings from Joshua Owens, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, and Clifford Coleman, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Owens scored 15 or more points.
Elkhart has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-20 record this season. As for Teague, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.
Elkhart couldn't quite finish off the Lions when the teams last played back in January and fell 59-57. Can Elkhart avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
