Atwater hadn't done well against El Capitan recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Falcons' pitcher stepped up to hand the Gauchos a 4-0 shutout. This was a revenge game for the Falcons: when they faced off against the Gauchos on Wednesday, they had to take a 4-1 defeat.

Not much got past Mathias Cole, who gave up just four hits to keep El Capitan off the board. Cole has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Atwater's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hudson Pimentel, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Another was Andres Reyna, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Atwater's win bumped their record up to 9-4-1. As for El Capitan, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-4.

Looking ahead, Atwater will be playing in front of their home fans against Escalon at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for El Capitan, they are taking a road trip to face off against South San Francisco at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Gauchos are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
