Mark Morris has won 19 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Columbia River has won 19 straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Monarchs will welcome the Rapids at 4:00 p.m. Mark Morris is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.6 runs per game this season.
Mark Morris proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 15) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let Prairie get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. The one-run effort marked the Monarchs' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
The result came thanks to Makenzie Henthorn's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 19 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 16 consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Columbia River got the win against Washougal on Monday by a conclusive 12-2. The Rapids might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by ten runs or more this season.
Haylee Delano made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Delano was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Columbia River got a massive performance out of Ella Easter, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Easter has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sydney Wilder, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Columbia River hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Columbia River has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Mark Morris, their win bumped their record up to 20-0.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mark Morris has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .550. However, it's not like Columbia River struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mark Morris took their victory against Columbia River when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Monarchs repeat their success, or do the Rapids have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
