Softball Recap: Monroeville Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Monroeville had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Western Reserve on Friday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Roughriders with a sharp 7-0 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by seven runs or more this season.

Veanna Helmstetter made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 20 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Monroeville let Payton Weilnau and Taryn Tyler run wild. Weilnau went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Tyler went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Weilnau has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Rosser, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

The win was the sixth in a row for Monroeville, bringing their record up to 19-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Western Reserve, their loss dropped their record down to 3-14.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroeville will host Hillsdale at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Falcons will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Western Reserve, they will take on Plymouth at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
