Basketball Game Preview: Leake Academy Rebels vs. Simpson Academy Cougars

Leake Academy and Simpson Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2022, but not for long. The Leake Academy Rebels will head out on the road to take on the Simpson Academy Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Leake Academy is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Leake Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Choctaw Central, who was ranked second at the time (Leake Academy was ranked third). Leake Academy secured a 36-30 W over Choctaw Central on Friday. The 36-point effort marked the Rebels' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Sarah Prince and Marleigh Myers were among the main playmakers for Leake Academy as the former went 5 for 11 on her way to 14 points and six rebounds and the latter posted nine points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Simpson Academy challenged Morton on Friday. Simpson Academy put the hurt on Morton with a sharp 53-33 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 20 points or more this season.

The win made it two in a row for Simpson Academy and bumps their season record up to 15-2. As for Leake Academy, their record is now 22-0.

Leake Academy couldn't quite finish off Simpson Academy in their previous matchup back in February and fell 47-45. Can Leake Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
