Baseball Game Preview: Yates Center Wildcats vs. Crest Lancers

Yates Center hasn't had much luck against Crest recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Yates Center is taking a road trip to take on Crest at 3:30 p.m. Yates Center will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Yates Center is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Oswego 17-7 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won eight in a row.

Meanwhile, Crest put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Northeast as Crest made off with a 15-5 win. Fans of the Lancers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Kade Nilges made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Henry White was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. Will Disbrow also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Crest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .314 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Yates Center's record now sits at 2-4. As for Crest, they pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Yates Center suffered a grim 19-1 defeat to Crest in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Yates Center avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
