Softball Recap: Evansville Memorial's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

Evansville Memorial dropped their record down to 14-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Heritage Hills Patriots by a score of 3-1. If the Tigers were looking for revenge after losing 10-5 to the Patriots when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Evansville Memorial saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mallory Wollenmann, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Heritage Hills, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 19-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

On Heritage Hills' side, Miriam Gordon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.

At the plate, Emma Fischer and Hadley Leibering did most of the damage at the plate: Fischer went 1-for-4 with one home run, while Leibering went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. That's the most hits Leibering has posted since back in April.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evansville Memorial will face off against Evansville Harrison at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.31 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Heritage Hills, they will venture away from home to take on Tecumseh at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Braves will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight.
