Softball Game Preview: Shorecrest Scots vs. Shorewood Stormrays

Shorecrest is 1-9 against Shorewood since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Scots are taking a road trip to face off against the Stormrays at 6:30 p.m. Shorecrest has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Edmonds-Woodway hit Shorecrest with a six-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Scots lost 15-4 to the Warriors.

Natalie Fernandez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Riu Hanrahan, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Shorewood had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They walked away with a 4-1 win over the Hawks. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Ellie Van Horn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lillian Perreault, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Shorewood's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Shorecrest, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.

Shorecrest might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Shorewood when the teams last played on April 8th. Can the Scots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
