Baseball Game Preview: Woodlan Warriors vs. South Adams Starfires

The Woodlan Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the South Adams Starfires at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Woodlan fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cadets by a score of 8-7.

Will Delagrange was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits.

On the hitting side, Drew Fleek made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Clayton Rosier was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

South Adams couldn't beat Frankton on Saturday even though they stacked six runs on them in the fifth inning. The Starfires lost 23-9 to the Eagles. Surprisingly, this marked the Starfires' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Woodlan has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for South Adams, their defeat was their ninth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-14.

Woodlan came up short against South Adams in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
