Soccer Game Preview: Athens vs. Lindale

The Athens Hornets will square off against the Lindale Eagles at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Athens' defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Cumberland Academy 8-0. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Knights are ranked 740th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Athens' offense was hitting Cumberland Academy from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Cloey Peters led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, on FridayBrownsboro kept up with Lindale until halftime, but afterwards: not so much. Lindale put the hurt on Brownsboro with a sharp 8-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won seven in a row.

Lindale's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three matchups. As for Athens, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
