Middletown is 0-10 against Cloverdale since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will host the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Middletown has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Middletown is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They lost 20-5 to Clear Lake. While the Mustangs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cardinals 4-0 in the first period.
Taylor Thompson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Cloverdale had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Trojans.
Camryn Bird was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Charlotte Burchett looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Bella Sanchez, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexie Hernandez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Cloverdale's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Middletown, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
