Baseball Recap: Cheshire Academy's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

Cheshire Academy dropped their record down to 20-2 on Sunday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Canterbury School Saints, falling 11-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Cats, who until this matchup were averaging 2.59 runs allowed.

Cheshire Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chase Mendela, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Canterbury School, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

On Canterbury School's side, Carter Heagle made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. What's more, Heagle posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Martel, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Wells Cunningham, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

As of now, neither Cheshire Academy nor Canterbury School have any future games scheduled.
