Softball Recap: Nine Straight Home Victories for Greene County

It was a proper cat-fight when Greene County faced off against Northeast Jones on Friday. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-9 win over the Tigers. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.

Addie Tungett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Tungett was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Riley Kate Byrd was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Amiyah Garrett, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Greene County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Greene County pushed their record up to 14-7 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Northeast Jones, with the defeat, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-4-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greene County will challenge East Central at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Northeast Jones, they will face off against Quitman at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
