Basketball Game Preview: Marquette Defenders vs. Maquoketa Valley Wildcats

The Marquette Defenders will square off against the Maquoketa Valley Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Marquette sitting on ten straight wins and Maquoketa Valley on three.

On Saturday, Marquette beat Galena 72-62. Given the Defenders' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 64th in Iowa, while the Pirates are ranked 237th in Illinois), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Maquoketa Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Central on Thursday, taking the game 58-50.

Maquoketa Valley's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.1 points per game. As for Marquette, their victory bumped their record up to 10-0.
