Basketball Game Preview: Dirigo Cougars vs. Boothbay Seahawks

The Dirigo Cougars will take on the Boothbay Seahawks at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Dirigo is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Maranacook just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 39-28 to the Black Bears. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Black Bears 12-7 in the first quarter.

Despite their defeat, Dirigo saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Aleiah Ward, who posted eight points along with six boards and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Luczynski, who had ten points.

Even though they lost, Dirigo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Boothbay was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a 67-19 loss at the hands of Winthrop.

Boothbay's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Dirigo, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Dirigo didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Boothbay in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 50-45 victory. Does Dirigo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Boothbay turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
