Basketball Recap: Shanon Hoover's Big Game Can't Quite Lead North Mecklenburg over Lake Norman

North Mecklenburg and Lake Norman squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but North Mecklenburg had to settle for second. They came up short against the Lake Norman Wildcats, falling 66-45. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost four in a row.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shanon Hoover, who went 6-for-15 to rack up 16 points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Hoover has posted since back in January. Lenise Joseph was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven blocks.

It was another big night for Kelsey Rhyne, who shot 42% from the field en route to 29 points and five assists for Lake Norman. Rhyne's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Rayana Minard, who went 8-for-10 on her way to 18 points.

North Mecklenburg's defeat dropped their record down to 25-4. As for Lake Norman, the win (which was their 19th in a row) raised their record to 27-1.

North Mecklenburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lake Norman, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 86-66 victory against Watauga on the 7th.
