Baseball Game Preview: Paris Greyhounds vs. Newport Wildcats

The Paris Greyhounds will head out on the road to square off against the Newport Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Paris and 34 for Newport dating back to last season.

Paris lost 9-3 to Montgomery County on Wednesday.

Paris saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Brown, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI. Karson Hickerson also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Newport came up short against Holy Cross on Friday, falling 28-1.

Paris' defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Newport, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

Paris' speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's match. Paris has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Newport, though, as they've been averaging only 0.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Paris continue to outrun the ball?

Everything went Paris' way against Newport in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Paris made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Paris since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
