Basketball Recap: Heritage Christian Comes Up Short

Heritage Christian lost against Guerin Catholic back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The contest between the Heritage Christian Eagles and the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles didn't end well, with the Heritage Christian Eagles falling 63-46. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 18th).

Despite the defeat, Heritage Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Caleb Flint went 6 of 15 en route to 17 points. Austin Wilhite also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Guerin Catholic was led to victory by Bryson Cardinal and Jake Grissom. Cardinal posted 25 points and five rebounds, while Grissom went 8 for 15 on his way to 22 points and five boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which Cardinal has scored at least a third of Guerin Catholic's points. Another player making a difference was Ryne Paris, who earned six points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Heritage Christian and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Guerin Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season.

Heritage Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 48-37 loss against Christel House on the 16th. As for Guerin Catholic, they will be playing at home against Cathedral at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cathedral comes in on eight and Guerin Catholic on six.
