Basketball Recap: St. Vincent De Paul Academy Starts Season with Victory on the Road

St. Vincent de Paul Academy had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy Rams as they made off with a 59-36 victory. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Hawks had established a 22-point advantage.

St. Vincent de Paul Academy found their leader in sophomore Leo Hodal, who posted 16 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Hodal has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Franklin Greene, who put up ten points and five boards.

St. Vincent de Paul Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. St. Vincent de Paul Academy will face off against rival Midland Adventist Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy is set to challenge their familiar foe Cristo Rey Kansas City at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
