Recap: Heights Bulldogs vs. Memorial Mustangs
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Heights Bulldogs had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 42-20 margin over Memorial. The result was nothing new for Heights, who have now won seven matchups by 22 points or more so far this season.
Heights' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lamont Robins, who rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, and also picked up 59 receiving yards. Dylan Ray was another key contributor, rushing for 82 yards and a touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Heights' defense and their eight sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jaylon Bihms and Jordan Clavelle who racked up 6.5 sacks between them.
The win (which was Heights' sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Chavez and 2-8 Westside (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 26.5% over those games). As for Memorial, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.
Heights will head out on the road to face off against Fort Bend Hightower at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Bend Hightower has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 475 points over their last nine contests. Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
