Baseball Recap: Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They came out on top against the Mesa Grande Academy Cardinals by a score of 9-6. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Kevyn Espinoza Ramos made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy: the team is 6-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Ricky Gutierrez was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high.
