Baseball Game Preview: Riverdale Chieftains vs. Southwestern Wildcats

Riverdale has gone 8-2 against Southwestern recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Chieftains will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. The last three games Riverdale has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Riverdale nor Iowa-Grant made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Chieftains had just enough and edged out the Panthers 2-1. The win continues a trend for the Chieftains in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Chase Chitwood made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off 11 hits (and only one walk). He is becoming a predictor of Riverdale's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't). Chitwood was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Chitwood wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Conlan Walsh, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Southwestern came up short against Boscobel on Tuesday and fell 6-3.

Riverdale's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Southwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
