Softball Recap: Monticello Mustangs vs. Waynesboro Little Giants

There's no place like home for Monticello, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Waynesboro Little Giants a 5-0 shutout on Monday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Monticello also won the last time the pair played back in March.

Madison Steppe was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 19 over seven innings pitched. Steppe has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than seven innings in six consecutive pitching appearances. Steppe was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and an RBI.

In other batting news, Morgan Doyle was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Sammi Deitsch was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Monticello pushed their record up to 8-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Waynesboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6-3.
