Softball Recap: Garces Memorial's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Garces Memorial's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Stockdale Mustangs on Wednesday. The Rams were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

Jaiden Gutierrez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Garces Memorial saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reese Bowles, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Bowles has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.

Garces Memorial moved to 13-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Stockdale, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Garces Memorial and Stockdale should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Rams will square off against Clovis at 11:00 a.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (85 vs. 415). Meanwhile, Stockdale (ranked 31st) will meet Ridgeview (ranked 752nd) at 4:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
