Basketball Game Preview: North Moore Mustangs vs. Northwood Chargers

North Moore is 0-5 against Northwood since December of 2023 but things could change on Monday. The North Moore Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Northwood Chargers at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

North Moore is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 66-60 heartbreaker at the hands of Chatham Central. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 555th, while the Bears are ranked 180th).

Despite their loss, North Moore saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Colby Pennington, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards, was perhaps the best of all. Pennington is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brandon Powell, who went 7-for-11 en route to 17 points.

Meanwhile, Northwood came tearing into Tuesday's game with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.9 points), and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past the Bears with points to spare, taking the game 65-51.

North Moore's defeat dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Northwood, they pushed their record up to 22-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.

North Moore took a serious blow against Northwood in their previous matchup back in January, falling 70-32. Can North Moore avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
