Recap: United Faith Christian Academy Falcons vs. Legion Collegiate Academy Lancers
The United Faith Christian Academy Falcons proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 67) but on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Legion Collegiate Academy 59-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
United Faith Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Devin Long led the charge by scoring 17 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Long has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Tiana Gongora was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Legion Collegiate Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaylen McMurray, who scored 29 points along with six steals and five rebounds, and Amelia Williams who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McMurray has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Garvin, who scored nine points.
The win made it two in a row for United Faith Christian Academy and bumps their season record up to 12-15. As for Legion Collegiate Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.
United Faith Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Legion Collegiate Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against South Charlotte T at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Legion Collegiate Academy is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in their respective states (they are ranked 107th in South Carolina, while South Charlotte T is ranked 490th in North Carolina).
