Baseball Recap: Maranatha Christian Turns Things Around After Road Loss

Maranatha Christian's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to La Jolla Country Day on Wednesday. The Eagles came out on top against the Torreys by a score of 8-4. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Torreys on Monday, they had to take a 6-4 defeat.

Shane Piester was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched six innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Piester was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Evan Wied, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Maranatha Christian's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 5-19 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cody Baltgalvis, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Maranatha Christian lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.

The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Torreys' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
