Softball Game Preview: St. John Fighting Herald vs. Conneaut Spartans

St. John is 0-3 against Conneaut since April of 2023 but things could change on Thursday. The Fighting Herald will look to defend their home field against the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. John has three straight victories, Conneaut has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, St. John got the win against Windham by a conclusive 8-1. The match marked the Fighting Herald's most dominant win of the season.

Isabelle Holler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nadia Lagoa and Rylee Frasure did most of the damage at the plate: Lagoa went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Frasure went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Mary West was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

St. John always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Jefferson Area hit Conneaut with a seven-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans lost 12-1 to the Falcons.

St. John now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Conneaut, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
