Softball Game Preview: Port Jervis Raiders vs. Minisink Valley Warriors

Port Jervis is 2-8 against Minisink Valley since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Raiders are taking a road trip to challenge the Warriors at 11:00 a.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Port Jervis sitting on nine straight victories and Minisink Valley on 12.

On Tuesday, Port Jervis got the win against Our Lady of Lourdes by a conclusive 13-1. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won ten contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Minisink Valley made easy work of Cornwall Central on Wednesday and carried off a 14-3 win. The Warriors are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the seventh match they've won by 6+ runs this season.

Emily Smith spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Minisink Valley let Keira Filip and Ryin Perico run wild. Filip got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Perico got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Filip has posted since back in April. Natalie Rogers was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Minisink Valley pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Port Jervis, their record now sits at 10-2.
