Basketball Recap: Pomona Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

On Saturday, the Pomona Panthers didn't have too much trouble with the Englewood Pirates as they won 58-44.

It was another big night for Dj Hawkins, who went 11 of 21 en route to 32 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The matchup was his 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Morine, who posted seven points along with five assists and five boards.

Pomona smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Englewood still got an impressive performance from Soren Singer, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Singer is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Dylan Noll was another key player, going 6 of 11 on his way to 13 points.

Pomona's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-6. As for Englewood, they moved to 4-7 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Pomona Panthers duke it out with the Jefferson Academy Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson Academy will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Pomona surely won't give up without a fight. As for Englewood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Alameda at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
