Basketball Recap: Mater Lakes Academy Skates Past Space Coast with Ease

Mater Lakes Academy's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 78-38 victory over the Space Coast Vipers. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 22 points or more this season.

Vanessa Vancott was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 35 points and 12 boards. The game was her 19th in a row with at least ten points. Lorena Fernandez was another key player, going 6 of 9 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points.

Mater Lakes Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

When it comes to explaining why Space Coast lost, don't look at Phillayjah Carroll. Despite the final result, she posted 25 points. Another player making a difference was Zanya Smith, who had eight points.

Mater Lakes Academy's record now sits at 13-7. As for Space Coast, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-8.

Mater Lakes Academy will welcome Schoolhouse Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Schoolhouse Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.9 points per game this season. As for Space Coast, they will head out to take on Titusville at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Carroll and Kennedie Sanders.
