Connersville is 8-2 against Franklin County since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. Connersville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Connersville is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Pendleton Heights just ended the team's 11-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Arabians by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Spartans have suffered since March 26th.
Connersville saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jade Green, who went 3-for-4 with two runs. Addie Phillips was another, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Franklin County beat Batesville 7-4 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.
The team relied heavily on Brooke Stang, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Tiffany Billman, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Franklin County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Batesville struck out eight times.
Connersville's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Franklin County, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Connersville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. However, it's not like Franklin County struggles in that department as they've averaged .479. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Connersville skirted past Franklin County 10-8 in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
