Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Weslaco East Wildcats on Thursday as they made off with a 16-1 victory. Considering the Eagles have won 22 contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Meredith Cavazos tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Parker Malone and Desi Garcia did most of the damage at the plate: Malone got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Garcia went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Malone is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Zepeda, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Weslaco East only posted an OBP of .400.

Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial pushed their record up to 28-2 with the win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Weslaco East, they moved to 21-5 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
