Astronaut is 1-6 against Viera since August of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The War Eagles will square off against the Hawks at 7:15 p.m.
On Tuesday, Astronaut came up short against Edgewood and fell 3-1.
Astronaut started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-17.
Astronaut's defeat came about despite a quality game from Jojo Demers, who had 11 digs and two aces.
Meanwhile, Viera entered their tilt with West Shore on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Wildcats 3-0.
Viera's win came from a few key players Astronaut will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Allie Brown, who had four digs and four aces. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 12.3 assists per game. Another player making a difference was Libby Williams, who had four aces and three digs.
They weren't the only good servers: Viera was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in three consecutive contests.
Astronaut's loss dropped their record down to 17-5. As for Viera, their record is now 6-11.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's match: Astronaut has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Viera struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Astronaut couldn't quite get it done against Viera in their previous matchup back in August of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can the War Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
